Miscellaneous Tasks in July

Overview:

A month for enjoying the fruits of your labour, and preparation for a forthcoming holiday.


Note: As with most advice on gardening the advisors location will often influence the content of the advice.

To alleviate this problem I have produced this chart indicating how you can make adjustments to the timing of events as seen in this website.

At any time this month:

Sow quick growing salad crops.

Ensure that plant ties are not cutting into the plant / tree.

Water newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials regulary, particularly if the are planted next to walls.

Continue with regular Lawn mowing.

Trim Conifers and Hedges.

Be on the look out for Lily beetle and Vine weevil.

Fill gaps in bedding schemes with plants saved previously for this purpose.

Ensure that water features are topped up.

Spray Nymphaea (Water Lily) and marginal plant leaves to dislodge any pests that may have accumulated.


Week 27 - 1st Jul. to 7th Jul..

Check aquatic plants for pests and diseases and treat as necessary.

Check over Tulip bulbs, and discard any that may have rotted.

Prepare the garden in readiness for a forthcoming holiday.


Week 28 - 8th Jul. to 14th Jul.

Spike lawns to improve aeration.

Protect Dahlias from earwigs.


Week 29 - 15th Jul. to 21st Jul.

Tie in and train Wisteria.


Week 30- 22nd Jul. to 28th Jul.

Place Winter Pansies in coldframe to harden off.
