The Vegetable garden in June

Week 23 - 3rd to 9th

Keep on top of the weeds with regular hoeing.

Plant out Chillis, Chives, Outdoor Tomatoes and Runner beans.

Protect and support peas.

Transplant Leeks.

Keep an eye open for signs of potato blight. 

 
 

Week 24 - 10th to 16th

Thin Fennel. 

Feed Onions.

Make another sowing of peas.

Continue picking rhubarb stems for a few more weeks, watch out for developing flower stems.

Remove rhubarb forcing jars so that the plants can receive full light, and give the clumps a liquid feed.

 
 

Week 25 - 17th to 23

Make successional sowings of root & salad crops such as beetroot carrots lettuce radish and turnips.

Remove growing tip from broad beans.

Thin out Carrots and cover with protective agro-fleece.

Clear back soil from Shallots if required.

Spray Cabbage if required.

 
 

Week 26 - 24th to 29th

Top dress vegetable beds with a general fertiliser as necessary.

Harvest garlic and globe artichokes if ready.

Keep asparagus beds weed free.

Make a successional sowing of French Beans.

Thin out Beetroot and Parsnip seedlings as required.

Check Brussels sprouts for aphid attack and deal with them accordingly.

Blanch leeks.

Pinch out flowers on Sage plants to encourage leaf growth.
