Ornamental garden in November

At any time this month;

Mulch your borders with compost to improve and feed your soil.

Stand patio pots on feet to improve drainage.

If weather conditions allow;

Plant evergreen shrubs and conifers.

Plant out winter bedding.

Divide congested clumps of perennials.

Plant trees, shrubs, roses and fruits.

 
 

Week 45 - 3rd to 9th

Cut down; Achillea, Physostegia, Polygonatum & Verbascum to ground level.

Protect Gunnera & Kniphofia plants.

Plant out Virginia Creeper.

 
 

Week 46 - 10th to 16th

Repot container grown lillium.

Continue to cut back herbaceous plants as they die back, composting all healthy soft material.

 
 

Week 47 - 17th to 23rd

Lift Pelargoniums and prepare them for winter storage if not done previously.

 
 

Week 48 - 24th to 30th

Protect outdoor Alpines if not already done. 

Finish the autumn pruning of bush roses,and trim top-heavy and standard roses to reduce wind-rock.
