Miscellaneous tasks in June

At any time this month;

Treat wooden tables and chairs with furniture oil if required.

Fork over compost bins / heaps.

Be on the look out for Greenfly and other aphids.

Hoe over bare areas of soil regularly to stop weed seedlings developing.

Applying a thick mulch of compost or bark over these areas will reduce the need to hoe.

Tidy up Topiary subjects.

Treat gravel drives, patios and paths with weedkiller.

 
 

Week 23 - 3rd to 9th

Cut lawns on a weekly basis.

Where applicable sever layered cuttings from parent shrubs.

Tie in wayward climber as necessary to prevent them hanging down and catching people in the face.

Some spring flowering shrubs may be in need of an annual prune, e.g clematis montana.

 
 

Week 24 - 10th to 16th

Give your plants a liquid feed every fortnight from now on.

If any plants fails to grow or gets eaten, fill gaps with more of the same.

Remove dead or damaged plant growth and blanket weed.

Top up water levels in water features.

 
 

Week 25 - 17th to 23rd

Protect newly planted shrubs from becoming scorched.

Protect newly spawned fish.

 
 

Week 26 - 24th to 30th

Pay special attention to newly planted summer bedding, herbaceous plants and tender vegetables for snail activity, and apply a proprietary chemical control if required. e.g.slug pellets.

Similarly keep a look out for their eggs and destroy them.

Don't leave garden chemicals within reach of pets or young children.

Repair lawn if necessary.
