Miscellaneous tasks in July

At any time this month;

Sow quick growing salad crops.

Ensure that plant ties are not cutting into the bark of fruit and other trees.

Continue with regular lawn mowing.

Keep a watchful eye out for lily beetle and vine weevil.

Plug gaps in borders with potted plants.

Trim conifers and hedging.

Ensure that water features are topped up.

Spray water lily leaves and similar deep marginal aquatic plants.

Water newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials until well established,particularly if they are planted against walls.

 
 

Week 27 - 1st to 7th

Try to get the garden neat and tidy before going on holiday.

 
 

Week 28 - 8th to 14th

Spike lawns to improve aeration.

Protect your bedding & exhibition dahlias from earwigs.

Take tip cuttings from Pelargoniums if you have not already done so.

Root tomato side shoots if required.

Pot up Begonias if necessary.

 
 

Week 29 - 15th to 21st

Continue training Wisterias as new growth forms.

 
 

Week 30 - 22nd to 28th

Place winter Pansies in coldframe.
