Basically this month is all about preparation for the incoming season.
Listed below are a number of tasks that you can get on with at any time this month.
Set cloches over seedbeds to warm the soil.
Do not walk on lawns when they are frozen.
Plan your garden layout for the incoming season.
Check over garden tools and service them as necessary.
Wash / Clean pots and trays in preparation for propagation.
Check after heavy falls of snow, that the branches of evergreens, such as conifers, are not weighed down to breaking point.
Collect up windblown debris and clear it away.
Apply a winter wash to kill off dangerous slippery algal slime and moss on paving.
Remove deep-rooted weeds growing through gravel paths or paving and apply a total weedkiller to deter further weed growth.
Don't discard that potted chrysanthemum plant you got for Christmas because it has finished flowering, save it to plant out in summer or take cuttings from.
