Miscellaneous tasks in April

Overview:

As mentioned in previous months miscellaneous tasks should be carried out as and when conditions allow.

Listed below, are few examples of tasks can that can be done at anytime this month.


Note: As with most advice on gardening the advisors location will often influence the content of the advice.

To alleviate this problem I have produced this chart indicating how you can make adjustments to the timing of events as seen in this website.

At any time this month:

Move maturing seedlings from the greenhouse into a coldframe to harden off as necessary.

If not done the previous autumn plant out Hedging when conditions allow.

Cut back climbing plants that are growing into gutters and roof tiles.

If not too wet apply a weedkiller to paths and drives, particularly those built with brick paviors.

Clear up the garden of any wind blown debris and weed around structural plants.

Check that supporting frames for climbing or tall plants is secure, repair/replace any that are damaged.

Similarly tie in any climbing or tall plants that have freed themselves from their support.


Week 14 - 2nd Apr. to 8th Apr.

Spray Apple trees.

If your Pond is leaking, empty it and make necessary repairs.

If required; Carry out any tasks from list above.


Week 15 - 9th Apr. to 15th Apr.

Trim Hedera (Ivy)

If required; Carry out any tasks from list above .


Week 16 - 16th Apr. to 22nd Apr.

Thin out Nymphea (Water lily) if necessary.

Tidy up Containers and Planters if conditions allow.

If required; Carry out any tasks from list above .


Week 17 - 23rd Apr. to 29th Apr.

Stock Ponds with fish if desired.

If required; Carry out any tasks from list above .
