Fruit Garden in October

At any time this month;

Erect supports for Blackberries, Pears, and Raspberry canes.

Ensure that all tree fruits are adequately supported to minimise damage during bad weather.

Prepare site for new fruit trees.

Prune fruited canes on raspberries and blackberries if not done previously.

Prune Gooseberry and Black Red & White currant bushes.(save prunings for cuttings if required)

Take Black Red & White currant hardwood cutting.

Feed Black Red & White currant bushes.

Divide  Blueberry, Bilberry, and Cranberry bushes.

Plant / transplant;Apple, Peach, Cherry, Filbert / Hazelnut trees,Raspberry canes, Blackberry , Black Red, White currants, Blueberry, Bilberry, Cranberry bushes, and Grape vines.

Fruit windfalls are best gathered up regularly and, if unusable burnt with any other suspect material.

If allowed to remain, windfalls may attract unwelcome pests and they may harbour disease spores such as scab.

Infected leaves that have fallen should also be raked up and burnt.

 
 

Week 40 - 30th to 5th

Start planning what new fruit bushes and trees you require for next season.

Seek advice from your local nursery, garden centre or specialist catalogues, before buying fruit varieties, which ones require one or more 'pollinator' trees nearby.

 
 

Week 41 - 6th to 12th

Continue with the above tasks.

 
 

Week 42 - 13th to 19th

Continue with the above tasks.

 
 

Week 43 - 20th to 26th

Continue with the above tasks.

 
 

Week 44 - 27th to 2nd

Continue with the above tasks.
